Gurugram erupted in celebration as Rao Narbir, MLA from Badshahpur, secured a place in the Haryana Cabinet once again, continuing his 37-year record of being appointed to the Cabinet whenever elected as an MLA. Despite being written off after being denied a ticket in 2019, Narbir made a resounding comeback in this election, overcoming party infighting to not only secure his ticket but also register one of the highest winning margins.

His victory highlighted his newfound closeness with Home Minister Amit Shah, and though portfolios are yet to be announced, Narbir assured that Gurugram would no longer be overlooked. “Gurugram accounts for 70% of the state’s revenue. With me as MLA from Gurugram, you can check my past records — just like the 2014-19 era, Gurugram will roar the loudest in the Assembly, and the Millennium City will get its due. We will restore the city to its grandeur,” Narbir said in an exclusive conversation with The Tribune.

Narbir’s inclusion, along with debutant Arti Rao, has left the Ahirwal region jubilant, as both leaders are expected to advocate for the region’s long-pending issues. “I will not just represent my Assembly segment but also Ahirwal in the Cabinet. We have supported the BJP since 2014 and have now been given due importance. The Ahir community will finally get its due recognition,” added Narbir. Narbir’s Ahir-dominated constituency of Badshahpur celebrated throughout the day.
