National Law University organises programme on POSH Act-2013

To ensure dignity and safety of women, Dr BR Ambedkar National Law University (BRANLU), Sonepat, through its legal aid cell unit and university students, organised a comprehensive awareness programme on the “Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (POSH) Act, 2013” at Rukmani Devi Public School.

The programme aimed at spreading awareness not only among the university fraternity but also among local citizens, schools, institutions, and different sections of society about the provisions of the POSH Act. The event was coordinated by Dr Sanjay Kumar, convener of the legal aid cell, with the active participation of university students.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr Praveen Gupta, Principal, and Dezi Gupta, coordinator, Rukmani Devi Public School, along with university students Juhi Porwal, Chetan Sharma, Yagendra Singh, Ojjaswini Gupta, Pratha Singh, and Devrat Gupta, and the school’s faculty and staff members.

The initiative was organised under the guidance and leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr) Devinder Singh. During the event, the participants were told about the key provisions of the POSH Act and the legal measures available to ensure the safety and protection of women at workplaces.

The students of the university presented a street play (nukkad natak) to sensitise the teachers and students of the host school about the importance of the POSH Act. The play effectively conveyed the message that women’s safety, respect, and equal opportunities were essential components of every workplace and that everyone had the responsibility to uphold these values. In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Devinder Singh said, “The safety and dignity of women form the foundation of a civilised society. The POSH Act is a powerful legal step toward ensuring a safe and respectful environment for women at workplaces.”

Registrar Professor Ashutosh Mishra added, “Such awareness programmes played a vital role in promoting gender equality, sensitivity and social responsibility. Our university has always been at the forefront of spreading legal awareness and fostering an inclusive and safe environment.”
