Karnal: NDRI starts fortnight academic programme

Before the 20th convocation of the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Deemed University, the institute has started a fortnight academic programme for students. It aims at providing a platform to the students for presenting their ideas of their start-ups and business ventures.

Dr Dheer Singh, Director, ICAR-NDRI, inaugurated the prorgamme and exhorted the students to come forward with new innovative ideas. He said the programme, specifically developed for young students, would help in the early development of their start-ups and business ventures.

“It will not only assist in job and business creation but also accelerate its development and encourage new student entrepreneurs by helping them in their business ideas,” he said. The ideas generated by the students and selected under this programme would be given upto Rs 2 lakh along with technical support for materialising their ideas, he added.

Dr Ashish Kumar Singh, Joint Director, academics, said there was a need to divert the students from being job seekers to job creators. Thirty-five new ideas were submitted by the students. Out of these, eight ideas have been selected from business ventures and seven from research-based programmes.

“These programmes will assist our students in developing their business plans and help in starting their journey as a successful entrepreneur in the field of producing elite dairy animals and milk product industry,” he added.

BTech, masters and doctorate students presented their ideas for making new dairy products, including some unique probiotic products, detection of adulterants in milk and multiplication of superior dairy animals. Evaluation of the proposals were done by a panel of experts. Dr DN Yadav, head, Dairy Technology Division, said these types of programmes would be held every year to encourage young entrepreneurs in developing careers in the dairy industry.
