A newborn boy was found on the terrace of a house in Karnal’s Uchani village late Monday night. The boy is one to two days old and has been admitted to the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) where his condition is said to be stable.

A member of the family living in the house went to the terrace to get clothes hung for drying when she heard the cries of a baby from a heap of wood lying in a corner. She rushed downstairs and informed the family, who then called up the police. The police reached the spot and got the child admitted to the hospital around 7 pm.

“The baby’s weight 2.6 kg at the time of admission and he was severally hypothermic. His condition has improved and he is stable. Currently, he is on feed and fluid,” said Dr Gaurav Kamboj, KCGMC Deputy Medical Superintendent.

The police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for further investigation. Child Welfare Committee chairman Umesh Chanana said they will keep the baby for a couple of days and then shift him to the state adoption centre in Kaithal. — TNS
