NOC delay hampers IPD services at Faridabad medical college, hospital

The state government-owned Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Hospital at Chhainsa village in the district is likely to begin services at the much-awaited Indoor Patient Department (IPD) from next month. The lack of no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Fire and the Pollution Control Departments has led to the delay in the commencement of the services at 400-bed hospital, which had launched the OPD service in July 2022.

Though the fire NOC for the major part of the building complex has been acquired, a section of the premises is yet to get the sanction as the work related to fire control infrastructure has been incomplete. The NOC from the Pollution Control Board had also been pending as the work on the setting up of the sewage treatment plant (STP) and ETP is yet to be over.

The medical college and hospital, which had become functional in 2021, had launched the emergency (casualty) services in April 2024.

While initially it operated as a Covid-19 hospital, it started OPD services in 2022 for the first time and began the work on setting up the infrastructure for the IPD service. “The shortage of doctors, nurses and lack of proper facility of pathological and laboratory tests have also hurdled the full operation of the hospital located in rural hinterland,” said an employee.

Medical College and Hospital Director Dr BM Vashisht said as the conditions for the NOC permissions had reached the final stage of completion, the IPD facility was expected to be launched by the first week of March.

Claiming that day-care facilities were already being provided, he said the radiology services, including X-ray, ultrasound and a centralised laboratory (providing all types of pathological and microbiological tests) besides a full-fledged blood bank, would be operational anytime soon.

The hospital came up in 2021 after the state government took over a private institution that was shut down due to financial crisis in 2015.

Located around 20 km from the district headquarters, this is the second government medical institution after the ESIC Medical College and Hospital in the district.
