Nod to enhance water- holding capacity of Mahendragarh distributary

The state government has approved a project worth Rs 25 crore for increasing the water-holding capacity of the Shahbazpur distributary and to ensure that more water is pumped into the Krishnavati river on the Dostpur border here for raising the water table. Some projects related to micro-irrigation and construction of ponds in various villages of the district have also been approved.

“The project is vital for the region as not only will it increase the capacity of the distributary, but also pave the way for the concretisation and capacity enhancement of other minor distributaries in the villages of Dostpur, Bigopur and Kamaniya. The increase in the capacity will ensure that more water is pumped into the Krishnavati and the ponds in Dostpur, Bhedanti and Dokhera villages are filled,” said Irrigation Minister Abhe Singh Yadav.

He said apart from this, the ponds in the villages of Nangal Dargu, Gangutana, Bakhrija and Musnota, which were situated at higher altitudes, would be linked to the Shahbazpur distributary through pressure pipes to ensure the availability of water to animals and recharging of water table there. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 14 crore, he added.

“In this series, a new pond will be built in Daungra Ahir village at a cost of Rs 2 crore and it will be connected to the main canal. Besides, a micro-irrigation scheme has been approved in Daungra Ahir at a cost of around Rs 10 crore. Under this project, water will be supplied to the fields by the government through pipelines. Farmers will be able to install their water sprinklers to irrigate the fields through the micro-irrigation system,” said the minister.

He said under the project, 815 acres of land in Daungra Ahir village could be irrigated. “Every effort is being made to provide water to Mahendragarh district. It will help improve the water table in Mahendragarh district,” he added.
