Notice served on denim dyeing unit in Panipat

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has served a show-cause notice on an illegal denim dyeing unit found operating in Sewah village of the district. The unit was found violating pollution norms and discharging chemical effluents without any treatment into agricultural land.

As per information available, a HSPCB team got a tip-off about an illegal dyeing unit operating in agricultural fields. Following the tip-off, Bhupinder Singh Chahal, regional officer, constituted a team which raided the unit. The unit was found operating without a valid Consent to Operate (CTO) and Consent to Establishment (CTE). It had no valid permission for extracting ground water from the Haryana Water Resources Authority (HWRA). Several workers were found working in the factory.

The unit has not installed any effluent treatment plant (ETP) in the unit. It is discharging chemical effluents into the agricultural land, which is a direct violation of the environmental norms. Bhupender Singh Chahal, RO, HSPCB, confirmed the denim dyeing unit was found running illegally. “It has no CTO and CTE and this unit has not installed any ETP in the plant”.

Show-cause notice was served on the unit owner and the action would be initiated accordingly, the RO maintained. As per sources, dyeing units fall in the ‘Red Category’ which are grossly polluting industries.
