A team of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) conducted raids at scrap-burning units in Ferozepur Bangar area of Kharkhoda in the district and served a show-cause notice to 10 units operating illegally.

The units were running without obtaining 'consent to establish' and 'consent to operate' from the state pollution board. The teams found violations of pollution norms.

Ajay Malik, Regional Officer, HSPCB, said all 10 units were found operating illegally as they did not obtain a valid CTE and CTO from the department. Notices had been served on all illegal units, and action would be taken accordingly, including sealing action and imposition of fine, he said.

The HSPCB had initiated action against over 20 illegal meta scrap units last year, which were found operating without a valid NOC. Most of such industries would operate at night, so that black smoke would not be detected.

Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Sonepat on Thursday was 'very poor' at 317. As per the directions of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), GRAP stage 2 guidelines were implemented in the NCR districts on October 21.
