Acting on inputs from a Central investigative agency, Nuh police have arrested a local lawyer for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. This is the third arrest this year from the Mewat region in cases linked to Pakistani espionage.

The accused has been identified as Rizwan, a resident of Kharkhadi village in Nuh district, who is said to be practising at the Gurugram court. According to officials, Rizwan was detained for questioning two days ago and was arrested after a case was registered against him at the Tauru Sadar police station. Another lawyer, believed to be associated with him, has also been detained and is under investigation for a possible role in the alleged espionage network.

A senior investigating officer claimed that Rizwan was allegedly funnelling large sums of money from Pakistan into India via hawala channels. “Rizwan used to bring crores of rupees to India through hawala from the network of ISI handlers based in Pakistan and used to supply this money further to be spent on terrorist activities, espionage and drug smuggling,” the officer said.

The official added that investigators have tracked multiple high-value transactions in Rizwan’s Punjab National Bank (Tawadu branch) account, and his frequent visits to Punjab are now under scrutiny. “It has also come to light that there have been several transactions of huge amounts in Rizwan's account... and he has been visiting Punjab frequently, which is being investigated,” the officer added.

Efforts to contact Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar remained unsuccessful. However, a DSP-rank officer confirmed the arrest and said an FIR has been registered under Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 17 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The police have initiated the process of freezing the suspect’s bank accounts, and large-scale raids and technical probes are underway to unearth the entire network.

This is the third Pakistan-linked espionage arrest in Mewat this year. In May, police arrested Mohammad Tarif of Kangarka village for allegedly sharing sensitive military information with Pakistani handlers and facilitating Indian SIM cards to agents in the Pakistan High Commission. Another man, Arman of Rajaka village, was also arrested the same month on spying charges.

Separately, in October, Palwal police arrested YouTuber Wasim Akram for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI and the High Commission.
