One held for blackmailing Dabwali man
A youngster has been arrested for blackmailing a man by threatening to file a false molestation case against him in Dabwali on Tuesday.
The accused, Krishan Kumar of Nar Singh Colony in Dabwali, was caught red-handed with Rs 20,000.
The incident began on March 3, when Nirbhay Singh, a resident of Masitan village, was heading from Lakhuwana to Masitan on a scooter. On his way, a woman asked for a lift. After offering her lift, Nirbhay was stopped by three youngsters who demanded money from him. They threatened to file a false molestation case against him unless he paid them.
Fearing the false case, Nirbhay handed over Rs 14,000 and transferred Rs 1,000 online to the accused. The trio then demanded another Rs 20,000.
Later, Nirbhay reported the matter to the police. A team from the Chautala police station went to the location indicated by the accused.
As soon as Krishan took Rs 20,000 from Nirbhay, the police caught him.
Dabwali SP Sidhanth Jain urged the people not to give lifts to unknown individuals without verifying their details. He said anyone being blackmailed should immediately report the matter to the police.
Initial probe revealed that this gang had been involved in 50 such incidents.
The police have registered a case against Krishan at the Sadar police station, Dabwali.
