‘One nation one election’, need of modern India: Minister
The Institute of Law and Legal Cell of Kurukshetra University organised a one-day workshop on "One nation one election”, on Wednesday.
Cabinet Minister, Social Justice, Empowerment Krishan Kumar Bedi, emphasised that ‘One nation one election’ is the biggest need of modern India. Under the provision, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Legislature Assembly Elections can be held simultaneously which will bring continuity in governance, reduce financial burden and workload on administrative officers.
National general secretary of the BJP Sunil Bansal said, “Healthy and fair elections are the building blocks of democracy. If we look at the elections held in India, we find that the elections are held in some state or the other every year. This not only affects administrative and policy decisions but also puts a heavy burden on the country's treasury. To avoid all this, the policy makers have come up with the idea of holding the Lok Sabha and state legislative Assemblies elections simultaneously.”
Inderjit Mehta, member of the Haryana State Law Commission, Advocate Vijaypal, state Convener, One Nation One Election Committee, and Madan Mohan Chhabra, state co-convener of the committee, emphasised the importance of ‘One nation one election’.
During the panel discussion, the panelists said under ‘One nation one election’, the elections of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and State Legislature Assembly could be conducted simultaneously in the whole country. As a result, separate elections could be avoided and the financial burden would be reduced.
