At about 12.45am when they were boarding their car for the return journey, around 15 to 16 persons opened fire on them. The attackers included Manoj of Bhatia Nagar, Sachin Pandit of Sudhail village and Sumeet of Unheri village, the complainant said.

He added he along with Janu, Rajat were hit by the bullets. Anmol who was at the spot was also injured.

After the incident, the attackers managed to escape, the complainant said. Those hit by the bullets were rushed to a private hospital where Janu was declared brought dead. On Saturday, relatives of those who were attacked along with others blocked the road near Fountain Chowk, Yamunanagar, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

They lifted the blockade after DSP Bilaspur Ashish Chaudhry assured them that several teams have been formed and the accused will be arrested soon.

It is alleged that there was an old enmity between Sachin Pandit and Janu Valmiki and they had lodged criminal cases against each other in the past.

A case against Manoj of Bhatia Nagar, Sachin Pandit of Sudhail village, Sumeet of Unheri village and other unknown persons under various Sections of the IPC and the Arms Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been registered at police station, Sector 17, in Jagadhri.
