Over 5 lakh farmers in Haryana report crop loss on 29.46 lakh acres

In the aftermath of the recent floods, 5.03 lakh farmers across 23 districts of Haryana have reported crop losses on 29,46,259 acres of land, according to data available on the e-Kshatipurti portal. The portal closed for registrations on September 15, with farmers rushing to submit claims before the deadline.

District-wise figures show that Bhiwani topped the list with 76,419 farmers reporting damage on 4,52,709 acres, followed closely by Hisar, where 75,348 farmers registered losses on 4,54,045 acres. Mahendragarh reported 67,652 farmers affected on 2,86,158 acres. Sirsa had 36,544 farmers claiming losses on 2,43,908 acres.

In other districts, 25,739 farmers from Jhajjar reported losses on 1,63,784 acres, while 27,310 farmers in Rewari claimed damage on 1,23,216 acres. Charkhi Dadri had 43,922 farmers with losses on 2,18,167 acres and Palwal reported 19,553 farmers on 1,16,887 acres. Karnal and Panipat recorded minimal damage, with 1,998 farmers on 15,571 acres and 106 farmers on 7,599 acres respectively. Panchkula had just 383 farmers reporting loss on 1,385 acres.

The Revenue Department has now begun a multi-layered verification of claims. At the first stage, patwaris are checking claims, followed by re-verification by kanungos, circle revenue officers, naib tehsildars and tehsildars. Senior officials including the District Revenue Officer and SDM will further verify. “Deputy Commissioner will reverify around 5 percent area and nearly 2 percent area will be verified by the Divisional Commissioner,” said a senior Revenue Department official.

He added that the government has fixed September 25 as the deadline to complete the verification process. “We appeal to farmers to cooperate with officials during verification,” the official said.
