“It is a matter of immense pride for the district that Dr Deswal has received the nation’s fourth-highest civilian honour for his remarkable contributions to literature, journalism, research, and social work,” the DC said.

He praised Dr Deshwal’s work, highlighting his significant impact not only in Hindi and Haryanvi literature but also in preserving and promoting folk traditions, journalism, and social causes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deswal expressed his gratitude for the national recognition, emphasising the importance of honouring those working selflessly at the grassroots level.

He also highlighted the depth and richness of Haryanvi culture, saying that it encompassed much more than just rituals or folk songs. “Our traditions, dialect, music, theatre and moral values all reflect unity, self-respect and coexistence. There is a need not just to preserve this heritage but to pass it on to future generations. It deserves a rightful place in literature, drama, media, and

educational curricula,” Dr Deswal added.
