At a meeting held at Swami Dayal Dham today, the khap, along with representatives of some other khaps, formed an 11-member committee to meet the victim’s family and monitor developments in the case.
Suresh Phogat, head of the Phogat khap who chaired the panchayat, said the committee would visit Manisha’s village and stand by her family in their pursuit of justice. He alleged that the government and local administration were attempting to suppress the case. “Khaps will not remain silent. If necessary, all khaps across Haryana will unite for a larger movement,” he warned.
Meanwhile, the Bhiwani police have booked operators of 10 social media accounts for allegedly spreading false and inflammatory content regarding the case. Notices have been served to those running accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
An official spokesperson said FIRs had been registered for publishing misleading information, inflammatory posts, and unverified reports that disturbed law and order. “The accused are also facing criminal charges for uploading false videos and spreading baseless news without confirmation,” the spokesperson added.
Police said they are investigating the matter from multiple angles, including the possibility of suicide. Manisha, a 19-year-old schoolteacher, was found dead near a canal in Dighawa village on August 13.
