Gurugram, July 4
Taking strict action, the Gurugram police seized over a dozen modified silencers installed in Bullet motorcycles and crushed there using a road roller in Sohna today. A video showing modified silencers being destroyed using a road roller in Sohna in the presence of cops has been shared by the police.
Police said they took action after receiving complaints that bikes with modified silencers were creating a nuisance on streets and disturbing locals.
“We received complaints that some miscreants used to regularly roam around on streets with their modified bike silencers on and create a pataka sound,” said Abhilaksh Joshi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sohna. “As per the rules, challans were issued to these bike riders and a road roller was run on the silencers after removing them from the bike. We destroyed almost 13 silencers today,” he said.
A senior police officer said the Gurugram police would continue to take similar action against those who disobey rules. Besides, action would also be taken against mechanics who install modified silencers, he said.
“We had already issued instructions in this regard. We have deployed police personnel at various checkpoints to stop such activities,” said ACP Joshi.
Earlier too, the police had issued challans to those who modified motorcycle silencers. However, with the growing number of complaints, police decided to take strict action. The Gurugram police also appealed to the general public not to disobey rules by modifying their vehicles and keeping the vehicles in a condition as per the rules.
