Scores of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, led by state president Sushil Gupta and senior vice-president Anurag Dhanda, today held a protest march in the city over the issue of unemployment.

They attempted to gherao the CM’s residence in Prem Nagar, but the police stopped them by installing barricades. Heated arguments took place between the police and party leaders, who alleged that the police resorted to force when the protesters tried to cross the barricades. They claimed that Dhanda and some other leaders and workers sustained injuries.

However, the SP denied their allegation, saying no lathicharge had taken place. He said the party workers and leaders were aggressive and were stopped by installing barricades. No injuries were reported, he added.

Earlier, the protesters assembled at Swami Vivekanand Park and raised slogans against the BJP-JJP government over the rise in unemployment and marched towards the CM’s residence. Later, the police detained the party leaders, including the state president.

Dhanda said around 25 lakh youth in Haryana were unemployed. “We have come to the CM’s residence to ask him questions. Despite two lakh government jobs being vacant, why is the government not providing jobs? Why is it sending youth to Israel to die when jobs are lying vacant?” he asked while interacting with the media.
