Police take spy to Kairana, conduct searches at his home
The police on Friday took Noman Ilahi, arrested by the CIA-1 unit of the district police for allegedly spying for terror organisations in Pakistan, to Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, and carried out search operations at his house. The teams seized some passports and other sensitive documents from his house.
Several Central intelligence agencies and Uttar Pradesh investigation agencies reached the CIA-1 unit to interrogate the accused.
As per sources, the unit took him to his native house at Begam market in Kairana of Shamli district, around 25 km from Panipat. The Kairana police accompanied the police team, which unlocked his house and carried out the search operation.
Ilahi never received money directly in his own account. His Pakistan-based handlers would deposit it in different people’s accounts, so no one would doubt him.
The sources said the accused had received money over a dozen times.
The police also prepared a list of persons who had reportedly received the money in their accounts on Ilahi's directions.
The sources said besides his ISI handler Iqbal Kana, some other people were also in contact with Ilahi, and some other youths in Kairana and adjoining areas.
Satish Vats, DSP (Headquarters) said it was a very sensitive issue and police teams were grilling the accused. People who were in his contact were also being called to join the investigation, he said.
