Haryana Chief Election Officer (CEO) Pankaj Agarwal said the Election Commission of India had issued a new standard operating procedure to deliver photo identity cards to voters within 15 days at their homes. He said this service would be available after making corrections in new registration of voters, any change in the status of existing voters or any other alteration. After making corrections, voter ID cards would be delivered to voters at their respective homes through the Postal Department.

He said under this system, voter ID cards could be tracked at every stage by citizen. A citizen would be informed about the status of his/her voter ID’s shipment delivery through an SMS on mobile phone. This would improve service delivery, he said, while adding that data security would also be maintained. This was a big initiative by the Election Commission of India towards providing better services to voters, he said.

In the last four months, Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have taken many new initiatives for the benefit of voters and other stakeholders. — TNS
