Former CM and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda today described the new government order on paddy procurement as a cruel joke on farmers.

He said the government should tell the farmers what they should do and where to take their crops.

“The government had announced that procurement would start from September 25. After that, the start of procurement was shifted to October 1. Now, the purchase has been postponed till October 11. Lakhs of quintals of paddy have been brought to the mandis of the state in tractor trolleys by the farmers. The government should tell what the farmers should do with this crop and where to take it,” he said.

Hooda said that the farmer is facing the brunt of the weather on the one hand and the government’s shifting policies on the other.
