An Executive Engineer (XEN) of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) was suspended in connection with a fraud of Rs 49.29 crore.

The XEN, who was posted in the sub-urban division in Yamunanagar, and a lineman were arrested on June 16. According to information, a special audit team of the UHBVNL had detected a fraud of Rs 49.29 crore in the transactions pertaining to the payment of gratuity in the sub-urban division of Jagadhri of Yamunanagar. As per an interim report submitted to higher authorities of the UHBVNL by the special audit team, some staff members of the nigam allegedly prepared fraudulent cash vouchers in the name of 1,063 persons by stating therein that the payment was being made towards gratuity of the said persons. On the basis of the bogus vouchers, cheques were prepared and subsequently, said amounts (Rs 49,28,89,371) were got credited in the wrong accounts. Rajinder Kumar, SE, operation circle of UHBVNL, Yamunanagar, said: “An XEN was suspended by the management and the lineman was suspended by me on Friday.”
