Gurugram police have arrested a private school operator and property dealer who had defrauded 96 people of about Rs 10 crore by preparing fake agreements and claiming other people's land as his own. The accused, who is a native of Begusarai in Bihar, has bought land in Bihar by cheating people from Gurugram.

According to the police, a local resident filed a complaint on September 18 against Nitish Kumar (27), proprietor of Khatu Shyam Properties, Dev Nagar, Bhondsi, that he had bought a plot in Dev Nagar part 2, Bhondsi area.

Kumar claimed to be the owner of the plot, sold it to him and gave him its physical possession. But after three days, he fraudulently took back the possession. Kumar only refunded a partial payment, thereby defrauding him of Rs 30 lakh.

The complainant alleged that Kumar defrauded around 96 people in a similar manner, claiming other people's land as his own and selling it through fraudulent agreements.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Kumar under relevant Sections of the BNS at Bhondsi police station and the investigation was assigned to police’s economic offences wing (EOW)-1.

The EOW arrested Kumar from Rithoj village. He was presently living in Devnagar area near Rithoj village under Bhondsi police station area.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed he moved to Gurugram in 2021 and is running a property firm. He also runs Shiv Ganga Public School in Rithoj village. He used to prepare fake sale agreements by claiming other people's land/plots as his own. He used the money to purchase land from farmers in Bihar. He confessed he has defrauded more than 96 people so far. We are questioning him,” said Gurugram police spokesperson.
