Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh urged the students to inculcate ethical and moral values in their lives. He said students must prioritise their studies and advised them to also participate in extra-curricular activities to ensure wholesome personality development. MDU Academic Affairs Dean Nov Rattan Sharma, in his address, underlined the importance of academics as well as moral conduct. MDU Registrar Gulshan Lal Taneja spoke about the rules and regulations of the university. Proctor Prof SC Malik emphasised the importance of discipline and ethical behaviour.
NDRI turns 100 today
Karnal: ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI) Joint Director Dr Dheer Singh said on July 1, the research institute would turn 100 and the National Dairy Research Institute would organise various events to mark the occasion. He further stated that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar would inaugurate a year-long programme on Friday and would also inaugurate a pillar, depicting the history of the pioneer institute, and an oxygen park on its premises. He said the National Dairy Research Institute was established on July 1, 1923 in Bangalore, now Bengaluru, and Dr William Smith was its first director. He further stated that it was shifted to Karnal in 1955 and later made a deemed university in 1989. He highlighted the achievements of the institute during these 100 years, including production of two high-yield crossbred cows — Karan Swiss and Karan Fries, landmark achievements in the field of cloning, developing cholesterol-free ghee, various technologies for detecting antibiotics, detergent, urea and other adulterants in milk. He said the scientists had also developed a specific mineral mixture to boost immunity and milk production in dairy animals.
Online seminar on statistics day
Kurukshetra: A one-day online seminar on National Statistics Day was organised at Kurukshetra University to mark the birth anniversary of Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, father of Indian statistics, and to acknowledge his contributions. KU Academic Affairs Dean Prof Manjula Chaudhary, in her address, talked about the role of statistics and its importance in daily life and how interdisciplinary approach can help in planning and programme implementation. Prof N Bala Krishnan from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, explained the problem of one-shot device testing analyses. He described different methods of inference and also talked about inferential methods and optimal designs under constant stress (CSALT) and step stress (SSALT) accelerated tests. Dr Ruchi Gupta, Assistant Director, Directorate of Census Operations, Haryana, emphasised on data collection.
