Rajendra Singh, a leader of the sangathan, said the increase in electricity rates was unjustified and it would take a toll especially on farmers, labourers and small shopkeepers.

“The government’s plan is to completely privatise electricity. There is a proposal to install prepaid electricity meters. The government has introduced a new electricity bill to ensure profits for big companies, while electricity has become a basic necessity and cannot be treated as a means of exploitation and profit,” he added.
