Punjab and Haryana High Court raps Maharshi Dayanand University over notice to asst prof

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the administration of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, on a petition filed by a woman teacher. The notice of motion was issued for September 27 by High Court Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya while hearing a petition filed by Vanita Rose, a faculty member at MDU.
The petitioner stated that Dr Menka, whose appointment as teacher was quashed by the court, had filed a complaint against Rose with the university, alleging that while pursuing PhD, Rose also did MSc from distance education.
A committee was constituted to inquire into the complaint, which concluded in its report that Rose had violated “PhD Ordinance” and “General Rules of Examinations” of the university. The MDU authorities issued a show-cause notice to Rose, asking her to respond as to why action be not taken for pursuing two degrees simultaneously.
“Since the petitioner was given appointment pursuant to directions issued by this court and challenge thereto stands declined, it is not open to the university to question the petitioner’s qualification or appointment,” stated the order. The judge said the university could take a decision on the show-cause notice after considering the petitioner’s response, but no action on that basis shall be taken without leave (permission) of the court.
