Mounting a strong defence against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote chori” in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, the ruling BJP today dismissed the charges as “lies born out of frustration,” urging the Congress leader to “set his own house in order.”

Leading the counter-attack, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini refuted Gandhi’s claims of voter fraud, alleging that the Congress leader was spreading falsehoods to divert attention from his party’s defeat. “Rahul Gandhi is lying and misleading the people because his party has run out of real issues. Four generations of his family have ruled this country and yet he has to rely on lies to remain relevant. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi are trying to create confusion and mistrust among the public,” Saini said.

In his allegations, Rahul Gandhi had shared a video clip showing Saini telling the media before the results that “arrangements had been made” and that his party was confident of victory. “What were these arrangements?” Gandhi had asked.

Clarifying the statement, BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli maintained that Saini’s remarks referred to the hard work and election strategies implemented by the party’s cadre, as well as possible post-poll tie-ups if the BJP fell short of a majority.

Satish Punia, BJP’s Haryana affairs in charge, asserted that instead of levelling allegation of ‘vote chori’ and questioning the role of the Election Commission of India,Gandhi should have focused on strengthening the Congress organisation ahead of the polls. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won people’s heart through his development agenda and allegations of ‘vote chori’ are without any basis,” Punia added.
