Sirsa MP and former Union Minister Kumari Selja has asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday to take urgent steps to ease severe traffic problems caused by the construction of a railway overbridge on Chattargarh Patti Road.

In a letter to the minister, Selja said the work had almost cut off the eastern and western parts of Sirsa, with the city. She said schoolchildren, women, the elderly, patients, traders and two-wheeler riders were being forced to take long detours for short trips.

Selja wrote that major parts of the city are now disconnected and, with no alternative routes available, travel times have sharply increased. She said temporary measures were needed until the work of overbridge was complete and a planned underbridge on Court Road was built.

She urged the Railway Ministry to reopen the old railway gate on ChattarGarh Patti Road for small vehicles to give immediate relief and reduce pressure on city roads. She also asked the ministry to create a new route near the goods yard of Sirsa Railway Station or restore an older route that once existed, allowing safer and smoother travel during construction.

Selja said the overbridge project was important for Sirsa’s development, but the residents should not face unnecessary hardship. She expressed hope that the ministry would act quickly so that traffic could return to normal and daily life in the city would improve.
