Heavy rainfall severely disrupted normal life across Yamunanagar, Jagadhri and several other towns in the Yamunanagar on Wednesday, as waterlogging was reported in multiple areas.

The district recorded approximately 65 mm of rainfall between 8 am on June 24 and 8 am on June 25, 2025. Pratap Nagar block saw the highest rainfall at 100 mm, followed by 80 mm in Vyaspur sub-division, 72 mm in Chhachhrauli, 58 mm in Jagadhri, 35 mm in Radaur, 30 mm in Sadhaura and 25 mm in Saraswati Nagar.

In Jagadhri, major roads and areas such as Matka Chowk, Jhanda Chowk Road near the Municipal Corporation office, Pathrowala Bazaar, Buria Gate, Town Hall, Civil Road and Prakash Chowk were submerged in water, disrupting traffic and pedestrian movement.

Yamunanagar was similarly affected, with severe waterlogging reported in Tagore Garden, Model Town (near the FCI godown), Govindpuri Road, Sector 17 (near Swami Vivekanand Public School), Azadnagar, Shanti Colony, Dashmesh Colony, Shakti Nagar, Professor Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Vijay Colony and Gulab Nagar, among other areas.

In many of these locations, vehicles stalled on flooded roads and residents had to push them manually, often with the help of passersby. Several drains and nullahs in the twin cities overflowed, further worsening the situation and disrupting daily life.

In response, the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) convened an emergency high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Mayor Suman Bahamani to discuss the issue of waterlogging. Commissioner Akhil Pilani and other senior officials of the MCYJ were present.

During the meeting, officials were instructed to expedite the construction of a key stormwater drain intended to manage runoff from Jagadhri. Additionally, directions were issued to release tenders for drain cleaning well before the monsoon season in future years, to ensure pre-monsoon preparedness.

“I have given strict instructions to MCYJ officials to find a permanent solution to the waterlogging issue so that residents of the twin cities do not suffer every monsoon,” said Mayor Suman Bahamani.

Despite efforts by MCYJ teams, who worked through the downpour to remove garbage blocking the drains, significant relief could not be provided. Overflowing drains continued to inconvenience thousands across the region.

Waterlogging was also reported from other towns of the district, including Sadhaura and Bilaspur, raising concerns about the district’s drainage infrastructure and disaster preparedness.
