The winter showers on Friday have exposed the poor drainage system in Sectors 13 and 23 in Bhiwani town. The local residents said that they had been raising the issue for a long time but there had been no response from the administration authorities.A meeting of the Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) of Sector 13 and 23 was held under the chairmanship of president Ramkishan Sharma. The RWA members said they had written a letter to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and District Grievance Redressal Committee chairman Mahipal Dhanda regarding the demand for drainage of rainwater, besides other demands like repair of dilapidated roads, repair of sewerage system, completion of the incomplete gym, proper management of the vacant post office land.

The Residents Welfare Association president said that a few months ago, former minister JP Dalal and the Chief Administrator of Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) had inspected Sector 13 along with other officials and had issued instructions to the officials to solve the problems. “The rains on Friday have exposed the poor drainage system which reflects the apathetic attitude of ministers and officials of the government towards their demands," said Sharma. He complained that even a little rain fills the streets due to which pedestrians have to face huge problems.

Sharma said there were 4,688 houses in Sector 13 and 23 having a population of more than 20,000. “Though a number of officials have visited the place to take stock of the situation and assured that drainage problem would be resolved soon, they have not solved the problem yet," he rued.

"The issues have also been raised in the meeting of the grievance redressal committee, but no solution has been found till date. There is a lot of anger and resentment among residents,” he said.
