Rashly driven car leaves 8 injured, damages vehicles

The driver, a Punjab resident, was allegedly in an intoxicated state.
As per the information, the car hit several vehicles, including two-wheelers, and people before getting stuck in a drain near Durga Nagar.
Dharmender Singh (40), a resident of Patiala, was at the wheel. He was detained by the police.
Meanwhile, injured Jashan, Amandeep, Mohit, Ramnu and Mukesh were taken to Civil Hospital in Ambala City. Jashan was later referred to Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment.
SHO Sunita Dhaka said, “The accused has injured eight people and damaged several vehicles. He was detained last night but since he had also suffered injuries he was taken to hospital. A case has been registered and a strict action will be taken against him.”
Meanwhile, IG Ambala Range Pankaj Nain said, “Over the past three months 1,000 challans for drunken driving have been issued. Dharmender, a Patiala resident, who was heavily intoxicated, hit a cart on Jalbhera road. He damaged several other vehicles over next 2 km while the car was being chased by people and police.” Sharing details about the incident on his social media handle, Haryana DGP OP Singh said IG Ambala Range Pankaj Nain had been asked to reach the hospital and provide relief to victims.
“There is a clear policy for criminals, who put lives at risk by driving under the influence of intoxicants. There will be no bail before a year and no sentence less than 10 years in such cases,” the DGP said.
