Jhajjar, February 25

INLD senior leader and MLA Abhay Singh Chautala has questioned the state government over the murder of his party’s state unit chief and two-time MLA Nafe Singh Rathi saying Rathi had demanded security, but the state government did not do so.

“The entire INLD family is shocked over the cowardly attack on Rathi. He was like my brother. Nafe Singh ji had recently demanded security cover from the CM, Home Minister, DGP and the Commissioner, fearing attack on him. The government played politics and did not provide security to him. Is the government not equally guilty in this?” Abhay wrote on “X”.

Talking to mediapersons in Bahadurgarh town, Abhay Chautala held the state government responsible for the murder of Rathi. “We demand a CBI investigation into the matter. Not only the killers be arrested soon, but action should also be taken against those who did not provide security to Rathi under some pressure. This incident could have been averted had the government provided security to him,” he said. The INLD workers would not sit silent, if the government did not accept their demand, he added.

The broad daylight killing of Nafe Singh Rathi and his associate in Bahadurgarh town here today not only caused a sense of insecurity among locals, but also left political leaders shocked.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the shocking news of Rathi’s murder clearly indicated that the law and order situation had deteriorated in the state and no one was feeling safe and secure.

Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “I am shocked by the news of Rathi’s murder. Law and order has collapsed in Haryana. This is the scary face of the Khattar-Dushyant government,” he added.

AAP state president Sushil Gupta said Rathi’s murder had proved that the state government had utterly failed in maintaining the law and order situation in the state. “Criminals are operating without any fear. I am pained and shocked at the incident that occurred while the CM was present in Jhajjar district,” he added.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Anil Vij said it was a sad incident. “I have asked officials to take immediate action. The STF has also been directed to work on this case. The police will take immediate action,” he added.
