The MC will reconstruct the chowk at a cost of about Rs 15.65 lakh to give it a beautiful, grand and attractive look.
The construction work is expected to be completed by August 30. After Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, the MC will revamp Maharana Pratap Chowk, Madhu Chowk, Pyara Chowk and other chowks of the twin cities.
Municipal Engineer Mrinal Jaiswal and other officials of the MC recently inspected the construction work of the under-construction chowk, and gave instructions to officials of the agency concerned.
Jaiswal said granite and red sandstone would be used for the project.
The base of the chowk would be circular in shape, and lighting arrangements would be made as part of the project, Jaiswal added.
“On the instructions of Mayor Suman Bahamani and MC Commissioner Akhil Pilani, efforts are being made to give twin cities a beautiful, clean and attractive look,” Jaiswal said.
The foundation stone of the chowk was laid by Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora on January 9.
“Red sandstone will be installed around the chowk. A statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh will be installed in the middle. Granite stones will be installed under the statue. A stone hut-like umbrella will be placed over the statue,” Jaiswal added.
“The renovation of the chowk will provide an even more attractive environment to people passing through the area,” he said.
