Research scholars meet Haryana CM over NEET exam issues

A delegation of research scholars has demanded an enquiry into alleged irregularities in the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) held at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, in May.

The delegation, led by student leader Pradeep Deswal, met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during his visit to Rohtak on Wednesday. They submitted documentary evidence, including photographs, and also accused the MDU Vice-Chancellor of corruption and mismanagement.

On its part, the MDU administration refuted the allegations, terming them “baseless” and motivated. In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the university said: “Maharshi Dayanand University categorically denies baseless allegations levelled by some vested interests regarding the conduct of the NEET held on May 4, 2025, by the National Testing Agency (NTA). MDU served only as a designated examination centre, with all operations handled by the NTA and under the supervision of the Rohtak district administration.”

The statement clarified that the examination was overseen by then Associate Controller of Examinations Prof Rahul Rishi, who was appointed City Coordinator by the NTA. Centre Superintendents and Deputy Superintendents were deployed by the NTA, while the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and other university officials “had no role in the conduct of the exam.”

The university further pointed out that CCTV surveillance, jammers, frisking and security arrangements were managed by agencies appointed by the NTA in coordination with the district police and administration. Duty Magistrates and NTA Observers were also on duty to ensure smooth operations.

“No irregularities were reported by the police, security officials, observers, duty magistrates, NTA agency or candidates during the examination. All details were duly shared with the NTA,” the statement said.

MDU condemned what it described as attempts to spread “rumours” months after the examination, calling them “malicious efforts to tarnish the university’s reputation.” The clarification was issued by Prof Rahul Rishi, Controller of Examinations at MDU.
