Members of the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 40, Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), have raised concerns over the safety risks posed by high-tension (HT) power lines near their homes. On Thursday, they met with Haryana's Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda, to press for the shifting of these power lines.

The residents, who have been staging a dharna for the past 17 days, said despite their repeated complaints and appeals, no authorities have addressed their concerns. They have written to various officials, including the Chief Minister, HSVP Chief Administrator, MD of Power Corporation, Deputy Commissioner and estate officials, requesting action on the matter.

According to RWA president Satpal Kandhol, the issue arose when an 11-KV feeder HT line was installed by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) to supply electricity to the adjoining private colony Shubhangan. The line has been laid close to the four-marla residential plots in Sector 40.

Kandhol and other RWA members, including vice-president Ram Prasad Mor, secretary Jaideep Malik, and others, fear that the proximity of the high-tension power lines could lead to a big incident if left unchecked.

Despite their ongoing protest and official complaints, residents say they have yet to receive any concrete response from the concerned authorities.
