Return Gurugram to its grandeur: Saini’s stern message to officials

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today took a tough stance on official laxity during his first Grievance Committee meeting in Gurugram by ordering the salary deduction of a pollution board employee who failed to provide the exact number of sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the city. The meeting addressed 23 complaints, highlighting inefficiencies across various departments.

During a discussion on STPs, Saini expressed shock over the inconsistent figures provided by officials. When a pollution department official could not provide the precise number, the CM directed immediate action, stating, “This is unacceptable. We will have zero tolerance for laxity or negligence by officials. Special attention should be given to cleanliness in the city to make Gurugram clean and beautiful. I will review the progress in the next meeting and those found lacking will be penalised. Return Gurugram to its grandeur, no matter what it takes.”

The CM emphasised that ensuring hassle-free delivery of public services is the state government’s top priority. He urged officers from all departments to regularly visit the field and ensure timely services.

State Minister and Badshahpur MLA Rao Narbir raised concerns over major lapses in the city’s advertising policy, pointing out revenue losses due to inconsistent pricing and long-term leasing of prime advertising sites for negligible amounts. “Many prime locations, which could have generated lakhs in revenue, have been leased for just a few thousand rupees for 10 years,” he said.

In response, Saini directed the Municipal Corporation Commissioner to draft a new advertising policy for unipoles and bus stops to prevent such losses. “Bids for advertising sites should be invited to ensure transparency and revenue generation,” he added.

Addressing a complaint about illegal encroachments on government land in Sarai Alawardi village, Saini ordered the immediate removal of encroachments. “A community hall should be constructed on this land to provide better facilities for public events,” he directed.

The CM also focused on sewerage issues raised by residents from various areas, instructing officials to upgrade the sewerage system to meet the demands of the growing population and ensure efficient water drainage.

Saini concluded by reiterating his commitment to public welfare and holding officials accountable for their responsibilities.
