The police on Sunday arrested a medical store operator, identified as Bir Singh of Rajpura Khalsa village here, for illegally selling medical termination pregnancy (MTP) kits. The accused was produced before a court which sent him to judicial custody.

According to the investigating officer, the Health Department received information that the accused was illegally selling MTP kits. Acting on this, on May 25, the department formed a team and conducted a raid at Yadav Medical Store at Kishangarh village. As part of a planned operation, the team sent a decoy customer to the medical store.

The store operator allegedly sold the MTP kit to the decoy customer for Rs 1,000. Following this, the team caught him red-handed on the spot. Subsequently, the medical store was also sealed.

A case against Bir Singh under various sections of the MTP Act has been registered at the Sadar

police station.
