The second day of the state-level ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ in Karnal on Friday witnessed a thrilling display of talent as players showcased their skills in five games, including kayaking & canoeing, tennis, handball, fencing and cricket.

The day’s highlight was the fencing girls’ competition, in which Vijeta from Rewari emerged victorious, followed by Kanishka from Ambala at the second place and Rashi from Faridabad at the third place, said Joginder Kumar, nodal officer, Adventure Sports Officer of the Sports Department and the incharge of Khel Mahakumbh, Karnal.
In kayaking competitions, the Jhajjar team emerged the winner, while Sonepat and Karnal secured the second and third positions, respectively. In canoeing, the Jhajjar team stood first, Sonepat bagged the second position and the Gurugram team secured the third position, he added.
In the quarterfinal matches of cricket (men), teams of Karnal, Rohtak, Jind and Kurukshetra won the matches and entered the semifinal, he added.
Similarly, in the quarterfinal of cricket (women), the Jind, Hisar and Rohtak teams won the matches and entered the semifinal. A quarterfinal match of Gurugram and Ambala was going on till the filing of news.
In the women’s pre-quarter final matches of handball, Jind, Sonepat, Rohtak, Fatehabad, Ambala, Bhiwani emerged winners, while in the quarterfinal, the teams of Jind, Rohtak, Hisar and Bhiwani won the matches and entered the semifinal. The semifinal will be played between Jind and Rohtak, Bhiwani and Hisar, he added.
In the men’s pre-quarter final matches of handball, the teams of Bhiwani, Sonepat, Faridabad, Charkhi Dadri, Jind, Fatheabad, Kuruskshetra and Hisar won the matches. In the quarterfinal matches, the Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Jind and Hisar teams won the matches.
In the quarterfinal matches of tennis for men, Jind, Rohtak, Gurugram and Sonepat players won the matches, while in the semi-final, Jind beat Rohtak, while Sonepat beat Gurugram. In the quarterfinal of tennis for women, players of Sonepat, Kurukshetra, Faridabad and Sirsa won the matches and entered the semifinal. In the semifinal matches, Sonepat beat Kurukshetra and Faridabad beat Sirsa, Kumar added.
