Rohtak, January 11

The cleanliness of public toilets, water bodies and door-to-door waste collection have turned out to be instrumental in bringing Municipal Corporation Rohtak (MCR) to the top position across the state in the Swachh Survekshan 2023.

It has scored 5,843.06 of a total of 9,500 points while the state and national average has been registered at 2,969 and 3,526, respectively. This is for the first time that Rohtak has been declared the cleanest city in the state. It ranked second last year.

Rohtak is at the 109th slot among 446 cities participating in the survey across the nation, while it was at the 38th position among 372 cities in 2022. Pradeep Dahiya, Commissioner, MCR, said 175 tonne garbage was collected daily from eight villages and Rohtak city. Around 800 sanitary workers of the MCR were engaged in this work, while a private agency had been hired for door-to-door garbage collection. The disposal of solid waste was done at a plant located at Sunariyan Kalan village.

“Eighty-four public toilets were constructed at various places in the MCR area. The survey team found their cleanliness up to the mark and helped us score good marks. Improvement has also been witnessed in other categories,” said the Commissioner. The MCR secured 3,431.20 out of 4,830 points in service level progress, 725 of 2,500 in ODF verification and 1,686.80 of 2,170 points in the Citizen’s Voice category.
