Rohtak health university plans campaign to boost green cover

Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), is set to launch a campaign titled ‘Ek Ped Patient Ke Naam’. The drive aims to expand the green cover of the campus while fostering environmental consciousness among the public.

“Under this campaign, we will encourage the attendant of every patient to plant at least one sapling at the time of the patient’s discharge. The goal is not just to grow trees, but also to create an emotional bond between families and the act of giving back to nature,” said Prof HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor (VC), while speaking during a plantation drive at the campus on Sunday.

To ensure the initiative’s success, Prof Aggarwal said the university would provide saplings, planting materials and designated spaces for plantation. University staff would take care of long-term maintenance, ensuring the plants thrive and contribute to a healthier environment.

He added that the campaign aligned with the broader vision of sustainable development and public participation in climate action. “It is a small step, but with a lasting impact. Each plant will symbolise gratitude and hope for recovery,” he remarked.

Dr SK Singhal, director, PGIMS, said the initiative would be launched soon and could serve as a model for other healthcare institutions in the state. “Doctors of all wards will be asked to motivate the attendants of their patients to contribute to this noble cause. Many patients are discharged daily from different wards,” he added.

Earlier, addressing the gathering at a plantation drive jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Rohtak City and the Horticulture Department of PGIMS, Prof Aggarwal emphasised that plantation not only made the environment greener but also raised awareness about conservation.

“Continuous efforts must be made to keep our surroundings clean and green. The university is committed to promoting such initiatives that foster awareness and responsibility towards environmental protection. Similar campaigns will be organised in the future to encourage greater public participation,” he added.

Rotary Club of Rohtak City president Vikas Bansal reaffirmed his commitment to community welfare. He noted that the club had earlier collaborated with PGIMS for plantation drives and would continue to support such initiatives whenever required.
