Rohtak health varsity to ink pact with Iraq to train docs, paramedical staff

Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iraq to train Iraqi doctors, nurses, and other paramedical staff at the PGIMS, Rohtak.

UHSR Vice-Chancellor Prof HK Aggarwal shared this information after meeting two Iraqi delegates — Prof Abdul Hussein, Adviser to the Ministry of Higher Education in Iraq, and Qasim Shandi, Vice-President of Al-Kut University—who visited the university on Monday.

“The UHSR has so far been training doctors and paramedical staff from within Haryana and across India. The day is not far when medical professionals from abroad will also receive training here. In this direction, the Iraqi representatives visited the university to understand its functioning and proposed an MoU. Under this agreement, doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and students from Iraq will be able to undergo two-year training at the UHSR. Similarly, our doctors will also visit Iraq to provide training and introduce them to the Indian medical system,” Prof Aggarwal added.

The Vice-Chancellor maintained that the MoU would not only enhance the university’s global standing but also give Iraqi medical professionals valuable exposure to the Indian healthcare model, thereby strengthening medical cooperation between the two countries.

Registrar Dr Roop Singh noted that UHSR offers courses such as MBBS, BDS, MD, and BSc Nursing. “The MoU will enable our doctors visiting Iraq to train their counterparts, teach surgical procedures, and familiarise them with Indian clinical practices,” he added.

Dadhichi Sharma, a consultant specialising in higher education, said this MoU would facilitate training and exchange programmes for medical and health professionals from both countries.

PGIMS Dean (Academic Affairs) Dr Ashok Chauhan and Public Relations Department In-charge Dr Umesh Yadav were also present during the meeting.
