Rohtak liquor contractor records statement in court

The local liquor contractor, who filed an FIR against a policeman, identified as Sushil, for allegedly demanding extortion money by using the name of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, has claimed in a video statement that he was subjected to both mental and physical torture, which compelled him to approach the police. “Now, I want a fact-based inquiry to ensure that justice is served,” he added.

The video surfaced on Wednesday and in it, the contractor with his face covered with a cloth can be seen detailing his ordeal. The contractor also recorded a statement in a local Rohtak court, levelling serious allegations of corruption, extortion and threat to life.

“I do liquor business and have been receiving threat calls from miscreants demanding extortion and also threatening to kill me. One such threat came from a notorious gang against whom I have already filed an FIR. Since June, I have been getting repeated calls from Sushil who claimed to be close to IG Y Puran Kumar. He told me if I want to stay safe, I must pay up,” the contractor said in his statement.

In the FIR, the contractor alleged that he was summoned by Sushil to the IGP office in June, where he was not only reprimanded but also threatened that he would be falsely implicated in a liquor smuggling case if he failed to meet the extortion demand.

But the FIR registered against Sushil at the Urban Estate police station in Rohtak – unlike other FIRs -- is not available on the HarSamay citizen portal of the Haryana Police.

An FIR under Section 308(9) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) was registered against Sushil on October 6. Following the registration of the FIR, Sushil was arrested and produced before a Magistrate on October 7.

The accused was produced at the Magistrate's residence instead of the local courts as October 7 was a government holiday. The Magistrate sent Sushil to jail under judicial custody as his police custody was not sought by the investigating officer.

Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya was not available at his office, nor did he respond to calls and messages. District police spokesman Sunny Laura also expressed ignorance about the facts/details of the case.
