The Municipal Corporation (MC) Rohtak, often criticised from all quarters for severe waterlogging on main roads and low-lying areas during the monsoon, appears to be taking the issue seriously this year.

In a proactive move, the MC authorities have identified 16 waterlogging-prone locations across the city and are initiating key measures well in advance of the monsoon season to prevent accumulation of water. To ensure rapid and effective drainage at these vulnerable spots, officials and staff have been deployed and assigned specific responsibilities.

Anand Sharma, Commissioner, MC, has issued instructions that all designated officials would remain present on the site during incidents of water accumulation and ensure prompt drainage. Disciplinary action would be taken against those found negligent in performing their duties, he added.

As per instructions, all municipal engineers have been appointed as overall in-charge, and they have been directed to provide the necessary support to the deployed teams in their respective municipal wards during the rainy season.

The Commissioner has also directed all Sanitation Inspectors to complete the cleaning of drains in their areas by June 15 and submit detailed reports. Additionally, weekly time-bound cleaning of all drains must be conducted without fail.

“Furthermore, all Junior Engineers are required to inspect ongoing road and street construction work, as well as potential waterlogging zones within their areas and take appropriate preventive measures,” he added.

In line with the Commissioner’s directive, junior engineers have also been designated as nodal officers for managing drainage at all 16 flood-prone locations to ensure smooth and effective execution of water disposal arrangements.

The potential waterlogging-prone areas identified include the stretch from Canal Rest House to Chhotu Ram Chowk, Chhotu Ram Chowk to Gohana Adda, and from near Satibhai Saidas at Gohana Adda to Sukhpura Chowk.

Other vulnerable zones include the route from Sheila Bypass to Tau Nagar, Sukhpura Chowk to Dalal Bhawan, IDC Chowk to Bangar Cinema on Hisar Road, and from Kath Mandi flyover to the railway station.

Additionally, the areas from Durga Bhawan Mandir Chowk to Mal Godam Road, the kacha road between the dairies and Mal Godam Road, Chhotu Ram Chowk to Shantmai Chowk, and Gohana Adda towards Mann Hospital and Civil Hospital have also been listed.

Further, the drain near the Old bus stand from the City police station to Kutcha Beri Road, Bohar Road drain, Mata Darwaza to Jind Chowk, Gokaran Park to Mata Darwaza, and the Mal Godam Road drain are among the locations identified for special attention to ensure proper drainage and prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season.
