Rohtak MC to reward outstanding sanitation workers

Facing the challenge of retaining its number one position in Haryana in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan Survey, the authorities of the Municipal Corporation (MC), Rohtak, have announced a new initiative to recognise and reward outstanding sanitation workers. The move is aimed at motivating staff to perform their duties with greater dedication for further improving hygiene standards across the city.

“Sanitation workers who consistently deliver exemplary service will be honoured under the programme, which is designed at acknowledging and appreciating those who are committed to maintaining a cleaner Rohtak,” said MC Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma.

Earlier, Sharma while addressing a gathering of sanitation staff on Tuesday, emphasised the importance of their role and the need to maintain high standards, especially during summers. “Sanitation is not just a routine work — it’s vital for public health and the image of our city. The workers putting in their best efforts will be acknowledged and rewarded accordingly,” he added.

Sharma also took the opportunity to advise sanitation workers on health precautions amid the ongoing heatwave. He urged them to eat properly before beginning work and drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and avoid heat-related illness. The workers, in turn, pledged to continue working with dedication to keep the city clean and beautiful.

During the session, the Commissioner instructed the Chief Sanitation Inspector to monitor staff attendance and work quality strictly. “No negligence will be tolerated. Any absenteeism or dereliction of duty will be dealt with under the rules,” he added.

To strengthen complaint resolution, the civic body is forming two special teams dedicated to responding quickly to public grievances related to cleanliness. These teams will ensure timely action on sanitation issues reported by the residents.

The Commissioner also appealed to the public to support the cleanliness efforts by disposing of household and institutional waste in designated dustbins. Citizens were urged not to litter and to only use the municipal garbage collection vehicles for waste disposal. Residents can report cleanliness-related issues by calling helpline numbers 8295900992, 14420, and 18001805007 or by using the Swachhata mobile app. The MC authorities have assured the public that all registered complaints would be addressed promptly.
