Efforts to shift city dairies to the Kanheli Dairy Complex have become a major challenge for the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (MC), with more than 57% of dairy owners yet to relocate, despite having been allotted plots several years ago.

As per official data, 135 of 235 plot holders continue to operate their dairies from original locations within the city, ignoring multiple notices served by the MC. Taking serious note of the issue, the civic body has decided to initiate sealing action against those who fail to comply.

“We have repeatedly warned, and even penalised dairy owners who have not shifted. The matter was discussed during the general house meeting today, and it has been decided that sealing action will be taken against non-compliant units,” Anand Sharma, MC Commissioner, told ‘The Tribune’.

Sharma further stated that a fresh notice would soon be issued, informing defaulters of the impending sealing drive. “Earlier, dairy owners cited lack of basic amenities at the complex as a reason for the delay. But now, all essential facilities are being provided, which is why around 100 dairies have already moved,” he added.

The Kanheli Dairy Complex project was launched several years ago to relocate dairies from urban areas to reduce congestion and sanitation issues. A total of 270 plots were created at the site, of which 235 have been allotted. However, the reluctance of 135 dairy owners to shift has forced the corporation to take action.

The general house also passed a resolution to lease out eight community centres to private firms to boost revenue. These centres are located at Old ITI, Gandhi Camp, Kanheli Road, Model Town, Ladhaut Road, Sectors 1 and 2, and Old Bus Stand area.

“Currently, these community centres are being managed by the corporation. Leasing them out will generate additional income for the MC,” said a corporation spokesperson.
