Releasing the hostel prospectus for the new academic session on Monday, Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh said the university was committed to providing a safe, disciplined, and well-equipped residential environment to support students’ overall development.

“Currently, MDU operates a total of 20 hostels — 10 for boys, accommodating around 2,800 students; and 10 for girls, with capacity of 2,500 students. A girls’ hostel previously allotted to PGIMS has now been reclaimed, enabling 300 more girl students to access hostel accommodation this session,” said the VC.

Singh said, in a significant boost for research, a dedicated PhD hostel for 150 scholars would be established in the boys’ section, alongside an air-conditioned international hostel for 150

foreign students.

“Canteens serving clean and nutritious food, gas stoves as per UGC guidelines, facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, open gyms, and aerobics are among the amenities being made available across hostels. Students will also be encouraged to join various clubs and participate in social outreach, ensuring holistic development beyond academics,” said the VC.

Dean (Academic Affairs) and Head of Department (journalism) Harish Kumar said the university was focused on the holistic development of students residing in hostels.

“To foster creativity and engagement, hostellers will be encouraged to participate in a variety of clubs — based on photography, coding, the environment, dance, painting, poetry, innovation, and brainstorming. Students will also be connected to their social responsibilities through active involvement in social outreach programmes, aligning their academic life with community service and real-world awareness,” said Kumar.
