The Ambala division of the Northern Railway has earned over Rs 5.38 crore in November during ticket checking drives.

The division officials during the drives caught over 40,000 people travelling without ticket and over 50,000 with irregular tickets during November.

As per the data shared by the Ambala Division, as many as 40,656 people were caught travelling without ticket and a fine of over Rs 3 crore was imposed on them, while 50,439 people were caught with irregular tickets (in which short distance ticket is taken while the passenger is caught travelling on longer route) and a fine of over Rs 2.37 crore was imposed.

This ticket checking earning includes 349 anti-littering case, 31 smoking cases and 28 unbooked luggage earning Rs 75,500, Rs 6,200, and Rs 7,498, respectively as well.

In ticket checking, the division’s Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector Sunil Kumar fined Rs 15.77 lakh by checking 2,913 cases and Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector Simranjit Singh fined Rs 13.72 lakh by checking 2,266 cases and gave the highest revenue in November, respectively.

A senior railway official said the checking drives were carried out by the Ambala Division in all trains so that people travelling in trains with proper tickets didn’t face any inconvenience due to those who were travelling without tickets. During the drives at various railway stations and in the trains, the division has earned over Rs 5.38 crore during November which is about 25.74 per cent more than the same corresponding month last year. In November 2024, the division had earned Rs 4.27 crore through ticket checking.

The cumulative earnings upto November is Rs 33.61 crores which is 28.35 per cent higher than cumulative earning of Rs 26.19 crores of the same corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of Ambala Division Naveen Kumar said, “It has always been the endeavour of the Ambala Division to curb the menace of irregular travelling. The passengers should travel with proper tickets. The Northern Railway, Ambala Division, is continuously striving to provide convenient and comfortable travel experience to the passengers and also requests the passengers travelling illegally and without tickets to travel with proper tickets.”
