A joint team of the Static Surveillance Team (SST) and City Police seized Rs 50 lakh from a Creta car in Sonepat city on Friday night. The car driver failed to show valid documents to the team. The car driver was identified as Surender of Bakshi Colony in Jind district.

The cash was in the denomination of Rs 500. The Income Tax department was informed and the cash was deposited with the treasury.

As per information, the joint team, under the supervision of Duty Magistrate Dilbag Singh and ASI Bijender, was checking vehicles on the Gohana road when it stopped a Creta car coming from the city.

During the checking, the team found a bag full of Rs 50 lakh. The car driver told the team that they were going to Jind and brought this money from Noida in Uttar Pradesh for registration of a plot. However, he failed to produce any documents.

District Election Officer and DC Manoj Kumar said the cash seized was above Rs 10 lakh, which was why the matter was handed over to the Income Tax department. The department would probe into the matter.

The DC said various teams had so far seized cash amounting to Rs 46 lakh and approximately 32,000 proof litre illegal liquor so far.
