SAD (A) to contest 5 seats: Mann
Karnal, August 29
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and former Member of Parliament Simranjit Singh Mann has announced that his party will contest the Assembly elections from five seats in different constituencies in Haryana. He announced that Harjeet Singh Virk will contest from Assandh, Hardeep Singh from Karnal, Kuldeep Singh from Pehowa, Bhupinder Singh from Guhla and Amarjeet Singh from Uchana.
“We will contest elections on five seats in Haryana,” said Mann, while interacting with mediapersons here today. On the statement of Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, he made a derogatory remark against her.
He also highlighted the issue of freedom and said India may be free, but Sikhs are not. He expressed his support for those advocating for a separate Sikh state, which he believes could act as a buffer state between India and Pakistan.
He also demanded the Union government to release the ‘bandi Sikhs’. “Our people have been imprisoned for 30 years, which is a long time. The Central Government should release them. Many others were released early, so why is there a difference between Hindu and Sikh,” he added. Mann also accused both India and Pakistan of promoting terrorism in each other’s countries.
Meanwhile, Haryana Women Commission has served a notice to Simranjit Singh Mann, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and former Member of Parliament, for his derogatory remarks against BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, giving him five days to publicly apologise.
The Commission has taken cognisance of the remarks and asked him to submit a written clarification in this regard.
