Saini raises SYL issue, affiliation with PU at zonal council meeting

CM Nayab Singh Saini today said that proper arrangements must be ensured for supplying each state its rightful share of water. He said Haryana had been giving Delhi more water than its own share. “However, due to the non-construction of the SYL canal, Haryana is not receiving its full share of water from Punjab. Once Haryana receives its share through SYL, Rajasthan will also get its due share,” he emphasised.

Saini was speaking at a meeting of the Northern Zonal Council (NZC) at Surajkund in Faridabad, under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister and Chairman, NZC, Amit Shah.

Saini said Punjab was the land of the Gurus—the sacred soil where Guru Sevak Bhai Kanhaiya offered water to even enemy soldiers on the battlefield. He urged Punjab to remember the great traditions of the Gurus while addressing the water dispute.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta also attended the meeting.

Referring to Panjab University, Chandigarh, Saini said, “If some colleges of Haryana become affiliated with the university, it will benefit both PU and state students.”

"By pooling our resources, sharing knowledge, and adopting each other's best practices, we can turn the vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ into reality," he said.

The CM also said that ensuring the safety of children was everyone’s responsibility. With the implementation of the three new criminal laws in Haryana, cases under the POCSO Act were being disposed of more swiftly, he added.

Saini said to ensure affordable healthcare, the government strengthened Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana by integrating its own Chirayu Yojana with it.

Of the 217 'sankalp' made in the 'Sankalp Patra' during the last Assembly elections, the government had fulfilled 47 in the first year, he claimed.
