The Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM), Yamunanagar, one of the largest sugar mills of the country, was honoured with the ‘Excellence Award' for producing the best quality refined sugar by the Sugar Technologists Association of India at the 34th session of International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis (ICUMSA).

The award was given by Dr Peter, chief of ICUMSA to Naina Puri, a member of the management of SSM, SK Sachdeva, chief executive of the SSM and Satyavir Singh, a senior officer of the SSM at a programme held in New Delhi recently.

Aditya Puri, managing director of the SSM, said receiving the award was a great honour for the SSM.

He said they had invested in state-of-the-art refining technologies, ensuring their products met the most demanding international specifications.

He further said they were not just producing sugar, they were shaping the future of a sustainable and high quality sugar industry in India.

“Our recent investment in a 160 KLPD distillery with a SLOP-fired boiler and a 5.63 MW cogeneration power plant demonstrate our focus on eco-friendly practices and energy efficiency,” said Aditya Puri.

DP Singh, senior vice-president of the SSM (sugarcane) said at the SSM, excellent quality sugar of 15 IU-ICUMSA was being produced, whereas at the world level its standard was 25 IU-ICUMSA.

“This way, sugar of higher quality than the world level is being produced at the Saraswati Sugar Mills. Sugar with less IU is considered better,” said DP Singh.
